ok- stupid question time- what maintenence should I be doing on my 4x4 components. I have a stock F-150 with lockouts for my 89. When I shift it into 4 low, and then shift back out of it and try to drive in 2 high, it will bind like it is still in 4 high. I know it is in 2wd, with the hubs locked. I have to unlock and then lock the hubs again to make it go away. Any ideas???

When you pack the "hubs" (where the wheel bearings are), DON'T pack the "hub locks" (where the stub shaft splines go). They have to be virtually empty with only a light coat of grease to work. Even with manual locks, you should back up slightly to release the bind in the hubs when you unlock, but with auto lockers, you must back up at least a few feet (10' is the recommended distance to be sure) with the t-case in 2 for the hubs to unlock themselves.

Try rolling backwards about 10 feet, sometimes that's all it needs to dis-engauge. I would make sure you pack the hubs, change the T-case fluid. You might even want to take the hubs apart and clean them up real good.
