Help!!! Building a 351 Windsor that I have no idea where it came from, and I think I put the wrong cam in it because the lobes don't line up with the lifters. I need to identify the block, so all I have is the casting number. I can't find anywhere on line to get casting numbers... so I thought I'd put the question out here in hopes that one of you geniuses will know.
Down by the starter, here is what I found.
C90E-6015-B 6
If anyone can help, I sure would appreciate it. Thanks!!
Well it turns out, you're right! I finally went and bought the Ford High Performance Parts Interchange book and now know that it is indeed a 351w from 1969 out of a Fairlane. ALSO that this is one of the best blocks to build because of it's high nickle content. Heck, I even hear that there is demand for this block. Thanks for your reply!
Yet one more question. The camshaft. I put it in, and it has probably 1/4" endplay... what did the engine builder forget???
Bronco Guy.... I have the same problem! I am working on a 1988 F250 that had the original 302 removed and a 351W installed in its place. My casting # is C90E-6015 B 3. No one is /was able to give me an idea what it is that I have here. Everything points to a 351W but somethings are different. May I ask what your firing order is? Mine, if wired like the books say for a 351W will not run right. From #1 counterclockwise my firing order is 15634278. I installed a timing chain and gear set for a 351W and when I put it back together I could not get it started wiring as one would for a 351W. Sorted out the wiring and boy she is running great! As I told another on a different website, she pulled a 4 ft. dia. by about 27 ft. long tree trunk out of the holler just day before and never missed a beat!
Good luck on your's, I have no idea what it is exactly I have here but it run's just fine for me now!
BroncoGuy84....Probably nothing wrong with anything the engine builder did. If you have the cam retainer plate installed on the front of the motor when you install the cam gear and tighten down the bolt the play in the camshaft should all but disappear. The retainer keeps the cam from coming out the front and the cam gear keeps the cam from going out the back. Hope this makes since, I might not have explained it very good.
trbl4u2... Here's a wild guess for you-- Somebody had an old 69 351w so they tossed it in your truck and then they had a distributor out of a california vehicle??? This is the only thing that remotely makes since. That firing order that you gave is definately not right for 90% of the 351w's out there!
I figured it out - the 1969 block has it's own camshaft thrust plate - meaning it is different than any other Windsor. Part numbers at least. I put the right thrust plate on and it works great. Just can't go to the parts store anymore and say, "It's just a Windsor, give me parts."

To set the record straight, the above information is INCORRECT!

Used On All = 1968/84 302

Just because the car line code is "O" does not mean it came
from a Fairlane. That was it's original design application, but
it could have come from a Mustang or Full Size Ford. There is
no way to tell unless you are the one who pulled it out of
the car. Part numbers will tell you what a item was designed
for but many parts were used across the board. Unlike GM,
Ford does not code the car application into the casting.
