I have a 1970 F100, 302 with 3spd manual trans. Had this truck since 1984. Anyways, just decided to put headers on and have ran into some issues. Headers are from summit and came with gaskets and hardware, Issue is that after install, there is no room for exhaust to hook up. I mean there is only about 3-4 inches between the header outlet and the trans crossmember. Has anyone else had an issue like this? I am not able to hook up even a set of glasspacks. It looks like there would have to be at least a 45 degree angle straight off the header. Thanks for any help. also, forgive me if this is covered elsewhere. I tried to search the site.
Long tubes and a manual tranny usually means the driver's side pipe will turn 90 degrees, cross to the passenger side, turn again and go up and over the cross member, and then go side-by-side with the passenger side tubing down the right frame rail.
Those with auto trannies can snake their way down the driver's side cuz there's no linkage in the way... even then a muffler shop will need to make small bends to make it work.
