Hello Oregon!
Just wanted to say good morning.
draboo what is taking you to the great northwest?
Yawn..Good morning Ford Folks!
I moved out here in the fall of '07 for construction work. I worked (union carpenter/industrial concrete formwork) till I had enough hours/money in fund to retire. My wife stayed back in MI working as a corrections officer for the MI Dept of Corrections. After she retired, and I still hadn't come home, we decided to sell our shack back there, pack up and "Go West". We ve been in the Seattle/Mount Vernon area for 3 years and decided to head to OR for a change of pace/precipitation amount. We have grown webs between our toes here in Mount Vernon and are moving south, actually, to be near to a couple that I knew from back in MI from my childhood. They are nearing 90 years old (been married 68 years, he is a disabled WW2 combat vet. He was a gunner on the top of a tank in Germany and was injured by schrapnel and fell off the tank. He has breathing problems, but is still in great shape) Both their sons are dead (one being my best friend from my childhood.) So...
We thought we would move close to them and help em out in their senior years. They both still live unassisted, but are nearing needing assistance. Waino still drives, but it is a bit scary to ride with him. I think we are going to suggest, with tact of course, that he not drive anymore and we will take them where ever they have to go.
Waino was like a second father to me when I was young. My father died when I was 9(1962) and Waino taught me to do all sorts of things..shooting a rifle/pistol, working on cars and trucks, the usual dad stuff. He has a gun safe full of pistols and rifles. He still has the .357 mag that knocked me on my butt when I was 10 years old. I shot at a 50 gal drum from about 15 feet, missed the drum and the pistol got me right between the eyes. Thankfully, the front sight didnt bury itself in my forehead!
So...THAT'S the reason (in a nutshell) we are here in the PNW and moving to OR.
Have a wonderful day, everyone! It's 34F this morning and sunshine!(and the coffee is good!)
