I purchased a 71 F-100 Ranger for parts, and the guy I bought it from said it had a 390 in it. According to the VIN #, the truck was originally a 302 truck, so there is no telling what it actually has in it now. The only number I can locate externally is on the heads, and that number is "6090R" (other than the normal "FOMOCO"). Any clue to what the "R" code is and what I may actually have?
The quickest way that I know of to tell if it is an FE is:
If the valve covers go on part of the intake manifold, it's an FE.
As far as the numbers go, I'm not to sure there.
I would go here http://www.network54.com/Hide/Forum/74182
Its an FE only forum, and these guys know their stuff.
