Can anyone decode this re-builder plate?

Hello all,

I have a 1951 F6 with a flathead in it. This is the re-builder's tag that is on the motor near the distributor. I can pretty much figure out that the motor has been bored 60 over, and the rods and mains are 20, and the cam is 10. What do the 4 digit numbers represent, model numbers for pistons and bearings?

I think that the main thing to try and decode is what is Model CRS? (Yes, I know Can't Remember Squat!) It may actually tell what the motor is.

I think that 4-38809 is just a consecutive number for the re-builder's records.

The casting number on the heads is 1CM or ICM. Mercury 255???

The motor is seized, so I cannot get an accurate stroke measurement.

Best regards,

Chris

Could be a Merc, you never know. No telling what CRS means, could be related to the contract or something internal to the company.Have you had the heads off?

CRS, Can Race Sometimes? Here in the US the authorized rebuilder was Fred Jones Ford. But, I am sure most on here are aware of FJF.

Bore .060 over and crank and rods .020 under. Just a guess on the cam spec but I would say base circle .010 under. ( I used to work in a machine many moons ago)

I took the cam spec to mean the cam journals were 10 under.

11 Western States FoMoCo Authorized Rebuilder: GPD - Genuine Parts Distributors (formerly Tumador Engine).

Fred Jones Ford was headquartered in OK, their rebuilding facility was the former OKC Ford Assembly Plant (it's there today, restored for mixed usage).

Were GPD and FJF defined territories that they serviced or were they both nationwide or more? I know you indicated GPD was western states. Living in the east, I never heard of GPD.

I was not aware of GPD. Finding a FJF component in a vehicle, we considered it "Good as new".

AFAIK, authorized Ford rebuilders were assigned specific territories. Fred Jones was by far the largest.

Jones also owned Ford, Edsel & L/M dealerships in OK .. possibly other states as well.

GPD is still in business, originally located in Vernon CA near the Farmer John Meat Packing Plant. The smell was simply awful!

They have since moved to the City of Industry (located in the San Gabriel Valley). The only foul smelling fumes are from diesel trucks and locomotives, as Industry is a huge RR marshaling area.

Western Engine Works Limited was based in Winnipeg Manitoba they are now defunk

6108 is the base part number for the piston pin so I assume the small rod end is 0.60" over then requiring piston pin's 0.60" over

6211 is the base number for the con rod bearings so I assume the con rod journals on the crank are 0.020" undersized.

6331 is the base for the rear main bearing so I assume the rear main bearing journal on the crank is 0.020" undersized.

6333 is is the base number for the rest of the bearings. they seem to be stock sizes.

The 0.010" over I believe is the engine overbore and not the cam.

The cam size listed is CRS it may just be the identifier for that particular cam.

Hope this helps.

6108 is the basic part number for the piston.
Piston pin is basic part number 6135.

I stand corrected . That's what I get for not using my reading glasses. Small things like comma's get missed. As there is a big difference between, Piston Pin & Retainer and Piston, Pin & Retainer.

That is great Matthewq4b. Thank you for your help in decoding the data plate. Now I will have to see if it is a 239 or a 255. I plan on taking the motor out of the truck and taking it apart. Then the mystery will be solved.

Best regards,

Chris
