Any tips, tricks, hints or ideas how to remove the downpipe in one piece? One site talks about cab removal, other says removing the tranny cross member and pulling the tranny to the side with a ratchet strap? but I don't quite get that. Are they dropping the tranny? Is it still connected to the engine? Why would you need a ratchet strap if you're dropping it? It's probably a simple explanation but I just can't picture doing it.
Haven't even looked at it yet. Pipe finally came today! From what I've gathered, the bolts aren't an issue, 36" of extensions and 3-4 swivels I'll get anywhere. It's the bends in the pipe that won't let it out due to obstacles. I'd hate to cut a perfect piece of pipe that ford charges $260 for.
to really raise the cab any amount you would need to do the batteries, air box, trans lines, fuel cooler and probably the wiring harness and fan shroud.
But I wonder if you could raise it just a bit to give you an inch or two without all the extra work.
Just a little at a time, check all hoses and stuff and then a little more till you get an inch or two.

sounds like a lot more work than I'm wanting to do. I may just cut the stock one. I'll get underneath tomorrow and take a look and do some measuring and analyzing.
If you remove the trans dipstick, remove trans crossmember take a ratchet strap and pull the trans towards the driver side it should clear with the correct tongue position. This has worked for me once, but now I just cut them.

So we're only looking for an inch or two?
And I guess cab off won't allow for clearance since the tranny is the issue.
You can just pull it off with the cab off. You only need an inch or two. Problem with the cab on is the trans is in the way. I had a 6.0L, but I have done a few 6.4L downpipes in my day!
All that work for a pipe that once you remove you will most likely never use again! Time value of money! Sawzall and its out in jiffy! Once you see the crimp bend in that down pipe you will realize why it is worthless.
