Need some Help Again

Hello, i went and measured my two frames, the 1977 F150 4x4 measured 37'' in the back, and my 89' F150 4x4 frame measured 37'' in the back, I only did that because i heard the 77' frames were narrower. I only checked it because im wanting the solid axle dana 44 under my 1993 F150. Ive searched and searched, and searched this topic, but havent found anything about the 1977 being different or the same as the 1978/79. Can anyone clarify this? The only thing i know for sure is i would have to lift the 83 4'' to clear the engine crossmember. I will have pictures soon showing what i mean

if the frame is 37 inches, it will be a late 78 or newer frame.

that was in the back, i couldnt get a accurate reading of the front. im going by what the 351m said, which said 1977 , but could that mean it was built in late 77? or have 78s been equiped with a motor from 77? Its also got disks in the front. Would the rear be a 9''?

Maybe its not the original motor either, the frame was just left behind by a guy who got a truck redone at the body shop.

The rear should be a 9" does it have a drop out 3rd member?

I thought the 250/350 "highboys" had the narrower frame....

what do you mean dop out 3rd member? are you talking about the transfercase? no its all one peice. its a f150, so im guessing i dont got to worry about the narrower frame then. believe me guys ive reaserched this high and low. since my ttb needs a complete overhaul im sure the soilid axle swap will put me money ahead since the whole thing is already there.

The 9" has bolts on the front side of the axle that allow you to pull the diff out with the cover (when the shafts are removed).

If its from a 77 then its a 9" if it has 5 lugs, Dana 60 if it has 8, and a Dana 70 if its a dually.

Rebuilding the TTB doesn't require any Fab work. If you are good with a welder then a SAS is a possible cost efficient alternative.

I wouldn't say the 9" inch is night and day better. Depends on your application. You shouldn't have a VSS in the rear axle since its an 89, So it should be a direct swap if Im not mistaken.

okay, i just have to find out the gear ratios than. I may not bother switching rears than. so if i use the 89 coil buckets with the 77 springs, what lift springs would be the best to get me over that engine crossmember?

I believe you have to use at least 4" springs.
