whats missing after volare install

I had forgotten that I had this. It's what was cut out of the frame on my 56 when the Volare ifs was installed. The pics were taken from the right hand, or passenger side. The front edge shows half of the round hole left in the frame when the front spring shackle hanger is removed. The other half of the hole is still in the frame. As you can see a "wedge" shaped piece is removed. The piece is ABOUT 2 inches at the front and tapers for several inches rearward. The rear edge of a crossmember is also removed .I thought some might be interested to see how much is actually removed to install a Volare ifs.

Seems like there was a lot more cut out than needed to be...here is a pic of my 56 with a Volare IFS:

A lot of guys (and gals) use the patterns that are available to cut the frame for volare installation. That's what was used on my frame. Too much or not , this is what comes out if you go by the pattern.Maybe the poor photography makes it look like more is cut than is, actually.Any less cut away would leave gaps between frame and new crossmember that would need to be filled.
My truck currently has a broken torsion bar on the passenger side. I hope to fix it today.

...and here's the parts that are initially cut from a 48-50 frame using the No-Limit install video. Of course there is additional trimming...

Interesting, this one looks like it put the new cross member several inches forward of where thomc's is located.

Got some apples and oranges going in this thread. The OP has a 56 and GNW posted about a older F1 install. I had forgotten about the extra wide engine mount crossmember when an I6 engine was installed...here is a pic showing the I6 with the deeper crossmember. Either my 56 was a V8 truck or the PO had already done the trimming as shown in my first post/photo. I guess that I read a little more into the original post...my focus is usually on the end product and not the leftovers.
