Need help. Anyone knows who still builds a good set of tube headers for a 1975 F250 4x4 with a '66 428 engine? I have a set of the old Ford cast iron long headers, but they won't fit in the truck. The only stock cast manifolds I can find are for a limp 360/390 with small exhaust ports. The pass 428 has large ports. Any help would be great. dick4711@sbcglobal.net
Several mfg's make them. You can search Summit racing for several mfg's and then take it from there. Stahl had some pretty nice ones along with Hedman, Hooker etc.
What you are looking for is pretty easy to find. Although many folks have had problems with fitment and starters going bad.
A search of this forum will get you plenty of info.
Any chassis exit header is going to put heat on the starter. I don't see how to get away from that although I'm sure there are thousands of trucks running around with chassis style of header that have used the same starter for years and years.
What casting # are your heads? You can find the # between the center two spark plugs. If you have the earlier/CJ style ports you will have to use a die grinder and lengthen the bolt holes/slots in the flanges by about a 1/4" to slide the headers UP on any of the headers that fit these trucks to match the ports. There are lots of different headers for FEs in 73-79 trucks, but none of them are made for the early style lower ports.
