I am installing a digital LED voltmeter gauge. The instructions say there is a ground a switched hot, I got that but the third wire goes to the "Headlight Circuit" This will dim the LED by 50% when the headlights are turned on. It says NOT to use the dash light rheostat control wire or the dimmer feature will not work. I imagine, this would have to be hot that becomes active when the headlights are turned on. Anybody got a good source where I should tap into the headlight circuit? (1999 F250 SD)
If I read your post correctly, you need a source for dash lights without dimming? If that's the case, lay down and look up under the center of the dash (straight down from the radio and HVAC controls) and you'll see a rather large black plug for the (optional) Auxiliary Idle Control to use. Grab a test light and probe the plug and there is a wire that activates with the dash lights only but isn't wired to the dimmer switch for the dash lights. Tap into that wire.
Thanks.. I will check it out. I guess where I was having troubles was I did not see much difference between a hot switched wire and the Headlight circuit wire. But I am thinking the Headlight circuit wire will have to go to a hot wire that becomes hot when only the headlights are turned on...
