This is my first post here.
I joined hoping to get a little help getting my truck where I want it to be.
I have a F250 2000 7.3L Auto
I use it to tow my car to the track. ANd winter driving.
Love the truck. Hate the fuel Consumption.
I have a 6" lift with 35 inch tires on 17 inch rims and I realize that dont help the fuel mileage at all. But its how I like it either way.
I do have a MBRP 4 inch exh and a basic intake.
What im hoping for it to score a programmer that will help towing when needed but help fuel mileage when just driving.
I have it down to 3 different ones. Either the Granatelli, Bulley dog or Edge.
Anyone use any of these with any luck? Or any other options thats working well?
Thanks for any help offered,
Troy
Most guys on here use DP Tuner. Others use Tony Wildman. I use Swamps myself. Power Hungary Performance is another one. DP and PHP are site sponsors I believe. Any one of these will beat the choices you have mentioned in my opinion. Many of the folks on here had used one of 3 you mentioned, and none have put them back on their truck, unless they are using it to read codes.
You should not get a programmer or chip for the sole purpose of fuel savings IMO. What gearing are you at, what kind of fuel mileage are you getting. I have 315-75-R16's with stock 3.73 gearing and highway driving get around 14mpg's which I find acceptable. Have you checked for places that are known to cause fuel mileage drops?
I would actually have to do the conversion cuz Im in canada and I keep track in KM.
But it works out to be close to between 12 and 14 MPG Just driving. I would like to see 20. But I may be dreaming with 35s on it.
I will do some research on the Programs you listed.
Thanks for your suggestions.
The truck is all stock otherwise. I will be upgrading the turbo in the spring simply because my current one is old, has broken hardware, leaks andI need it realible.
If you want tuning go with a custom chip, from any of the above, DP, PHP, Swamps, Tyrant. etc. But I don't think you should get them looking for great fuel mileage. 20 seems high to me for a 4WD lifted wind sail going down the road. 2WD more realistic but not a tall truck
If you are wanting to upgrade turbo soon, you might consider a package then just add tuning as well. Single shot injectors will gain a little as well as tuning but I don't think you will get the numbers you are wanting out of the 7.3

This is the kind of info Im looking for.
Thanks. It gives me a starting point.
My injectors are worn out and do need replacement also. I was gona do that with the turbo. Perhaps I will just wait till then to get a matching program/chip.
My poor truck already wont start if I dont plug it in when it dips below freezing as it is. So the new injectors, hi pressure oil pump will go on with the upgraded turbo in the spring.

Glow plugs or the glow plug relay could be part of your cold weather starting problem too.
Well this is as helpful as the origional post you quoted. And like I replied to it then.... With the exception of my tires, everything else I have done has helped with mileage and performance.
And since I dont roast my truck.... it was all worth it.
