I have added "how to take apart your steering column" article on my website. I will update it with pictures and reassembly later. I'm still working on my "Relocating spring hangers" article.
john,
when you installed your torsion suspension did you have to
to off-set your engine and transmission one to one and a half inches to the passenger side...found a web site (front suspension
options),talks about the advantages and disadvantages of all
front end options....it talks about setting the engine over that
amount...i've never heard of it and wanted someones opinion that had done the installation.
tks,jeepcat44
From what I've seen and read, I think it depends largely on what engine you use, how your mounts are fabricated, and what kind of exhaust you use. I've seen several SBC installations where the engine was not offset and some 351/460 installations that were. I haven't seen a 289/302 yet, so don't know about that one. I know that No-Limit makes a transmission crossmember with the offset built in.
my engine was a 460 and I offset 2" to the passenger side to clear the steering box ( I thouhgt) After I installed the Sanderson headers I had interference on the drivers side AND the passengers side... tried three different header combos and couldn't get a fit...
Called Bob at Bob's f-100 , who is the undisputed Volare guru and he said my engine was too low... although it was set up exactly like the article that he wrote.. anyway after 30 minutes or so of discussion... I thanked him and hung up... raising the engine would have called for serious firewall mods and I wasn't into that. So I did the next easiest thing... I hacked the volare out, rebuilt the frame rails and installed a MII
Never take the hard road when the easy road is harder.
Fenders could give you more detail on a 302 offset... he's using the volare and the 302 mill and he knows what to do.. and if he doesn't ... he'll at least tell you how he was selected for ROTW
"Fenders could give you more detail on a 302 offset... he's using the volare and the 302 mill and he knows what to do.."
My engine is centered or very close to it. My clip is installed pretty high and I used the Mid-50 F100s Jenga Puzzle motor mount kit. Shorty Mustang headers (86-93). I can slide my daughters cat between the PS box and exhaust without excessive singe.

It is called thread hijacking. I hate to brag, but Niolon and I have our Master Instructor Certificates. We try to answer the subject at hand. Satisfied with that, in two sentences or less, we convert the thread to something more in our comfort zone.

My favorite baseball team George. That reminds me, have you seen Juniors webpage? I understand he has a tech article there on how to tear F1 stuff apart.
There you go Nathan, right back on track, no harm done.
We're just teasing Nathan. Your site is very nice and getting better every day. I didn't see your other article though. Perhaps I just wasn't patient enough. I have a slow connection.
