390 distributor questions

I have posted this in the FE/FT engine section as well
Heres what I have, freshly rebuilt 390, pressure primed on engine stand, got oil into upper end of engine. installed into truck, using DUI HEI disy, have autometer guages under dash, cranked engine over no oil pressure. Removed disy, pressure primed in truck have 60psi on guage. brought #1 to tdc apprx 18-20 degrees on balancer, droped in the disy, rotated oil pump shaft prior to install of disy. rubber seal on disy sits into the intake apprx 1/8 inch, seems like disy is not droping down enough to enguage oil pump drive shaft. when I installed I had engine upside down, installed ARP one piece drive shaft in with that goofy washer facing towards top of motor, then installed oil pump. looking down into engine with dissy out I can see the top of drive shaft, lower portion of disy shaft hangs down below dist gear appr 1/2 inch, should be plenty to enguage oil pump drive shaft.
Thanks for any ideas and or suggetions
Jeff

There are two different oil pump drive shaft diameters. The standard diameter is 1/4" the heavy duty version is 5/16".
Maybe the distributor is set up for 5/16".

Great idea, I did not know about the different sizes
when I had the disy out, I have another ford drive shaft, it slides into disy but it is a snug fit. When I pressure primed motor I used a 1/4 drive extension and installed 1/4 socket, had to grind on socket to get it to fit into the block.

Just reviewing on the internet, found an artical on a disy swap in a galaxie from oem to MSD, when going back in, the drive shaft would not stay centered, they used a dab of grease to hold shaft centered and then stabed disy

Any other cool ideas to try or check??
Jeff
