hey all, looking for a toy to buy and stumbled upon this.....im slightly mechanically inclined and like to tinker on my car and snowmobiles, i mean nothing super major soo... how risky would it be to buy this truck? if i go look at it and it seems alright. Here it is: 93 ford ranger lowered 302 t5 5 speed built
You have to drive it and make sure it goes straight on the gas, on cruise and on the brakes. No driveline clunks. No halfass exhaust. Clutch must work properly. Trans mount should look factory or close. Engine mounts should be factory type, not solid. What rear axle? If it's a 7.5, it won't last behind that motor, so figure a replacement at some point. Heater and defroster????
Does he offer any proof of "built" motor items?
As long as you can register it and it drives ok, go ahead if you like it.
well honestly, i think it would be a fun "sleeper" like truck to toss some civics with....and i did just email him asking if he did the work himself or a garage and if he had any receipts or proof of the work..so hopefully i will know by the end of the night
Well, if you make the assumption that 1. it is all there and 2. it has been beat to death, you should be good to make an offer and prepared to rebuild/fix everything.
Interesting that two of the pictures show the truck with snow on the road. How driveable is it in snow conditions? It probably is "whoopie" on dry pavement and "whoopsie" on snow.

chains in winter perhaps, but not very useful on hot, dry pavement.
I would avoid............"13 second quarter miles"... wet behind the ears, immature driver.
Probably run hard and put up wet, look for something more adult driven.
my $.02 1: I had a Pinto that ran 1/4 in 14.03 using the 4 banger back in '75. We only got it down to 12 with a 302 in it. 2:ask if it has had a dash fire. I find kids just cut and hack the harness putting in those boom sound systems. 3: who did the lowering job, how was it done, and was it a kit?
There is enough frame to support the engine, done correctly it ought to work but will always be a work in progress. Can you say wheel hop?
