I had this same problem too before I changed this that and the other thing then one day my water pump started to make noise but was not leaking? I changed it and found that the bearing was worn to the point that the whole shaft had moved out ward and the bearing was digging its way through the casting of the pump.
Hey Talyn,I'm about a foot deeper than you at this, this very minute,I put new belt on the other day and noticed same issue, new belt riding on inside of wp pulley, shredding edge so pulled it off, found three idlers all bad,or goin south, replaced all three bearings and STILL riding off wp pulley so checked tensioner(stock single pulley) and it was coming apart and hanging up so order new goodyear gator type bigger belt and double pulley both on the way, have alt brackett off and when new dual setup gets here am gonna post pics of modifing alt brackett, fords TSB diagram(found here somewhere) is what i am following looks easy enuf, hope this works,100 $ total in it so far!!
I got over 100 just in belts since i've owned this truck. haha.
You sure it's not the water pump itself?
I know a guy here his grenaded while he was driving, took out the rad and pretty much everything up front.
Gave no warning signs of wear, it just went.
Hope your's is OK and it's something minor.

This happened to mine and caused the urge to do my electric fans. LOL
If I assume that it worked correctly at one time, then I would look for something worn. Was the water pump replaced with an incorrect series? Or, as mine did, is the bearing in the water pump worn so the shaft is running out of alignment and forcing the belt against the inner flange. Original pump went 120k. Replacement Cardone (rebuilt) went 65K. Next replacement will be a Gates (new) and will put it in next week. Since I pulled the seals on the 3 idler pulleys and lubricated them trying to find the source of the noise I have to replace those bearings as well. Sometimes defects are not obvious when there is no belt tension so really push and pull on things with the belt off when looking for worn parts. New water pump is a good time to replace thermostat as well and carefully check radiator hoses. At 185k I am replacing them while the system is drained. Good luck!
