Just got my spindles back from the powder coater and found that they sand blasted the opening in the back of the spindle that the kingpins ride in. I seem to recall this channel being smooth when I pulled it off the truck. My new kingpins are the nylon bushings type. Do I need to worry about that channel being too rough? Thanks!
It depends how rough they are. I mean, the sleeves are machined and the bushings are fitted as to not allow grease behind them.. However, the nylon bushings have bigger channels on their insides for the grease and provide lubrication.
Assuming the bushing grooves are bigger and allow more grease through than the rough surface, then ya should be okay. Again, it depends how rough. I'd prolly call up a machine shop and ask them. If they say it's toast, then I'd make the powdercoater pay for replacement spindles AND do a TON of powdercoating for free.
