Insuring a $20k truck looks better on paper than a $15k truck with $5k in mods.

Franko....I will look into that...

The sad reality is NO !! You have to either get it insured for a set valve and with some companies is a pain in the BUTT !! Or you get a rider or add on to your policy. I worked in the collision industry for 20 yrs. And I can't tell you how many p*****off customer I have seen when their car or truck is totalled. Noone ever reads the fine print in their policy. And don't ever forget a insurance agent is a salesman. He does not make a dime for claims and can NOT do anything about a claim.
If you drive a stock car or truck any of these companies aren't 1/2 bad. But I will tell you what I would tell my customers when they were upset.
" I make a living (past tense now) off insurance companies and I have State Farm" I couldn't tell them that their company su**ed due to the fact I made money off of them. But for what it is worth State Farm and Farmers are the best out there. Allstate tries to make you think they are all that but when it is time for repairs they don't pay for alot of things or they don't pay as much to the shop to repair it. And at a body shop the bodyman and painters work off %. So who do think will get a better repair.

I have USAA and never thought of asking them to insure the mods but it makes sense to do so if they will do it.

If you can get USAA, you will never regret it!

I have been a member of USAA for 25 years. Other agencies won't even waste their time trying to beat USAA.

No hassle claims, great service, and you can't beat the price.

They have a lot of other services also. If you were ever in the military, you qualify for membership.

I don't have a lot of mods, but haven't thought about getting extra insurance. I figured that as long as the truck isn't burned, I would pay the salvage value and part it out myself.

Why would anyone trust a lizard ?

Speaking of salvage value!

I talked to a lawyer here in Idaho and he said that if a insurance company wants to total out your truck that they are not aloud to take your truck away from you. You pay for insurance and you own your truck, they do not. Their responsibility is to insure that you get your truck paid for at the current value of the truck, money owed or damage.
The only reason they take people's truck from them and let them salvage the truck is because people like us let them, not knowing that we don't have to let them.

Just a bit of FYI. The lawyer said it pi$$es him off that they try and do this to people but people don't know any better.

Also, in regards to salvaging parts... I have to agree. If my rig was totaled I'd just keep it for spare parts because you're going to save thousands just having it around to use as parts.

I have progressive and they allow you to insure the truck for stated cash value, it will cost you more but you will get the cash value if you total it or its stolen... obviously make it realistic, but my friend had a bagged silverado and rear ended someone with it aired down, screwed it up royally and they didnt bat an eye, they cut him a check on the spot - thats why I switched to progressive.

See ya later Geico , Nothing personal, it's just buisness...

I can tell you Allstate is worthless. I had them as insurance for 17 years and the 2 agents I had here in NC were no help to me when my previous truck was hit twice in a year. First time I was rearended while waiting to make left turn, hit and run witness stopped and told myself and police where to find car, towed by PD. Second accident a state truck decided to stop in middle of road and back into me after I had stopped. I was so pissed off and yelling the driver and 3 convicts in truck never got out til trooper showed up. Both times my Allstate agent told me I had to deal with the other persons insurance myself. What a waste of thousands of dollars for shoddy service. Got Nationwide now, they are great!

Wow. Allstate for you sucked.
My first claim with my mountaineer and Allstate was a deer and i got a whole front end out of it. Adjuster come out and was like, $1700 in damage, I asked for the check and I'll get it fixed later, and no questions asked my insurance cut me a check.
A year later I was rear ended and totaled it. My insurance company sent out an adjuster after I called them (liberty insurance adjuster boned me) and said it was totaled and asked if i wanted them to handle it. (I said no cause I knew the guy who hit me) I faught and faught with liberty and finally got my check.
Hit a deer with my lifted explorer (after the fourth one I figured I'd call it in) and they come out the next day. I've had.nothing but good luck with Allstate and I've called around for new quotes every 3 years or so. I get a darn good rate with Allstate.
I think it's who you talk to and which agency you use.

Also when I went to cancel my policy with Allstate my agent just said "okay" and didnt even care. Really insurance is just a big scam anyway. Just my personal opinion.
