Front Differential Leaking?

I’m guessing there shouldn’t be any oily residue on my front differential?
The back diff is dry.

Does anyone else have white sealant sticking out of the two sealed pieces?

Is there something else I should be looking for making this appear as if it were leaking?

These pictures are bad but it’s raining now so I’ll try tomorrow with a better camera.

I will take a peek at mine tomorrow but I'm thinking that yours certainly looks nothing what mine looks like. That's a fair amount of crud for a truck less than 2 years old.

looks like a leak around the cover to me.

If you are under the 36/36 I'd have them reseal it. Should be quite dry.

I just looked at mine. No leaks, dry as a bone. I do not have the sealant sticking out between the sealed pieces.

From your picture it looks like the cover is starting to rust under the finish?

Thanks for checking.

A number of things are rusting and I don't live in a snow prone area.
When we do get snow/ice a few times a year, only salt is thrown on bridges.
Roadways are only sanded.

No leaks,no sealant sticking out of cover. My cover is starting to show some surface rust.

It seems I'm the only one so far.
I called and will take the truck in this evening.
It will be a painful couple days waiting for it.

Thanks for looking. Good to know considering your mileage.
I only passed 25,500 yesterday.

Was the white sealant visible on yours?

The new heavy truck service manager asked me if it was dripping (it isn't but that's not the point) so we'll see what they find.
New service management makes me nervous until I rebuild that customer/dealer relationship.

The sealant is normal, the leak is not.

Differential resealed. Easy enough fix.
Dealer had my truck 24 hours. Can't complain about that.
I think this is the first mechanical repair and nothing major.
