Rather than bailing out the Airline Industry by handing them a huge wad of cash again, let the people get the Airlines going. Send a free ticket to anywhere to everyone that paid one cent or more in Federal Income Tax.
I'll bet there are millions upon millions of people out there that are not afraid to take a trip.
How about they don't get a bailout, but the FedGov just pre-pays for a lot of tickets that they would have bought later. Of course, they should get a discount for such huge purchases...
The airline industry has not made money since it started up. They go boom-- bust -- boom-- bust, kind like their planes... but over the long haul, if you bought airline stocks- think Eastern, Pan Am, TWA, etc they made bupkus over the long haul. Why bail them out if they are just going to go belly up anyway?

Afraid to fly? Not me. I logged over 100K miles last year on a single airline (Delta). I have no idea how many miles I flew on United, Singapore Air, Japan Air, and Philippine Air since I am not part of their frequent flyer programs.
