Solution to Airline Woes.

Rather than bailing out the Airline Industry by handing them a huge wad of cash again, let the people get the Airlines going. Send a free ticket to anywhere to everyone that paid one cent or more in Federal Income Tax.

I'll bet there are millions upon millions of people out there that are not afraid to take a trip.

How about you? Afraid to fly?

Solution to Airline Woes.

How about they don't get a bailout, but the FedGov just pre-pays for a lot of tickets that they would have bought later. Of course, they should get a discount for such huge purchases...
The airline industry has not made money since it started up. They go boom-- bust -- boom-- bust, kind like their planes... but over the long haul, if you bought airline stocks- think Eastern, Pan Am, TWA, etc they made bupkus over the long haul. Why bail them out if they are just going to go belly up anyway?
Just my 2 cents.

Afraid to fly? Not me. I logged over 100K miles last year on a single airline (Delta). I have no idea how many miles I flew on United, Singapore Air, Japan Air, and Philippine Air since I am not part of their frequent flyer programs.

Solution to Airline Woes.

In Canada the problem is all the extra fees.

Last year in say October "West Jet " a Western based airline who uses nothing but Boeing 737's, had a seat sale.

The tickets were from Calgary to Edmonton.

That's a 180 mile trip.

The price of a West jet ticket before the extra fees = $5.00

That's right $5.00

The price of the one way ticket after all the taxes and fees were added = $92.00.

That's right $87.00 in taxes and fees to go 180 miles within the same province.

I'll see if I can find the schedule of fees.

*Sidenote:

Clive Bedoe is the CEO of Westjet > he pays himself $300,000/year.
He has put the company in the Black since he started his airline.

Air Canada is a totally different story.
Liberals = Red
Air Canada = Red

Solution to Airline Woes.

I recently read somewhere that the only two airlines in North America that made money last year were WestJet and SouthWestern.

Funny..............two airlines with the same "no-frills" business model made money.............wonder what happened to the rest?

Afraid to fly?

Nope! I try to worry only about the things I can control.

Solution to Airline Woes.

The only plane I will get in is 4x4, bears a blue oval, and has a bucking horse on the tire cover. Ive flown a handful of times, and I absolutely hate it! You frequent flyers can keep em...
