Got a 97 ford explorer sport that wont start. It will go like its going to start but ive only got it to run with ether then dies got new battery n tps thinking its the alternator becuase i hear a ticking in that area and the battery is now dead after i charged it all the way up granted i did try consistantly to get and keep running any ideas?
Since it will start with ether, that would suggest you are not getting enough fuel.
Have you checked to make sure the fuel pump inertia cutoff switch is not tripped? The owner's manual should explain where the switch is located, probably at the passenger side footwell. It would also be wise to check for voltage to and through the inertia cutoff switch to increase confidence that power is making it to the fuel pump.
Based on the model year the fuel pump, as suggested above, is a likely culprit, but if you haven't replaced the fuel filter since you've owned the truck, you may start there. If you end up putting a fuel pump in this to get it working you'd want a new fuel filter installed anyway, so it would not be wasted effort and money to go ahead and replace the filter now. It is a routine maintenance item, afterall.
Hi guys i replaced pump and it was running earlier today but when i left for work tonight kept stalling and has new iac and fuel pressure reg it was also making noises from engine not rod knocking tho load ticking
