Ok, What is the point of the auto lights in these newer cars and trucks?
I hate the idea of lights staying on for a while after I open a door. I'm old school and still shut headlights off at idle so this crap realy peeves me.
Is there a way to bypass or disable this function? The wifes '05 had the interior lights stay on for about 30 seconds and that was irritating but the running lights and the interior for over a minute! This is insane.
I tried pulling the light delay relay in the center console to no avail. Any ideas?
The SJB is programmable, it must be done at a dealership. They will not modify anything that their lawyers consider a safety or security issue, but it cant hurt to ask. The lights do not harm anything, wont even run the battery down as the SJB has a shut off function to protect the battery from power drains. As far as cutting the lights off at idle, the electrical systems in the newer vehicles are more than capable of handeling it with out any adverse affects to mileage or performance.

Yes, somewhat though. For instance, daylight running lights must be enabled by law on vehicles sold in Canada and is/was on the '09MY. Unless the manual is wrong, missing, etc., it's not listed as a feature that can be enabled/disabled.
Almost all functions in the SJB can be enabled or disabled for "diagnostic" purposes. I had to go through this on my 06 Mustang when they had to disable the key fob operated windows after a bug started rolling them down on their own in early 06. I had a long talk with the field tech about the SJB and it's functions. Quite an interesting piece of electronics, even if the ECM and SJB are made by Delphi these days.
I agree, cars have become more of an appliance then something that can be enjoyed. Not like my old Corvair Corsa, you knew when you were driving that car

I'm just going by what the manual states. When the infamous "hooting" noise started in '09, the first fix was to reprogram the 4WD module which didn't help anyway. The manual shows the 4WD module as not programable and after replacing it shows nothing needed either. Go figure...
My 64 F100. You feel the road. You actualy drive it. You alone control it. No computer telling you you can or cant. Cars now days are great in many ways but......The thrill is gone to say the least.
Being one of the rare occasions that I actually got to drive the Escape today... The autolamp timer function can be reached via the setup menu on the dash. I'm sure it's in the manual too, but I havent even cracked the shrinkwrap on that yet...lol
