Again, first make sure the ignotion switch itself works. The check to see that the pushrod doesn't look bent. You usually can do this by sticking your head on top of the gas pedal and looking up.
Sounds like you have a messed up part called an "actuator". Take apart the column to check. To pull the steering wheel, take off the horn pad (2 screws on back), pull off the big nut in the center, then use a steering wheel puller. If you don't have one you can usually get it off by pulling REALLY FUGGEN HARD on one side of the wheel, than the other, until it comes off. Take out the blinker switch (rod and a few 0.25" screws), and then watch all the shiny zinc and aluminum parts as you turn the key. One of them should either be broken or have missing teeth.
Chances are you'll be best off just replacing the whole column. It takes 1 hour maximum, is very easy to figure out, and non-tilt columns are very easy to get and should cost you about $100.

I just threw this thread together because this is what happened to mine. Im fairly certain this is your problem.

It actually took longer to make that thread than it did to do the job.
Good luck and hope that helps
Edit: the blinker lever is the tilt lever. Push toward the dash (mine needs to be pushed HARD)
