Hello everyone!!! New to this site but have been looking at it for years; knowing someday that I would be posting a project on here and today is the day!!!! I just picked up a 1977 F-150 2x4 that was my dad's from almost new. I am now the owner and my son and I are going to restore it for when he turns 16 which will be in 5 years. We are very excited to get started. I have a few pictures of us picking it up yesterday which was a 340 mile roundtrip. The last it was ran and inspected was in 2007. This will be a frame off complete restoration. We are definitely NOT professionals but mechanically inclined and have most of the tools to do the restoration, so any input, good or bad, from fellow members will be very welcome. I have pictures but not sure if I can post them or how to post them. Please let me know what to do on the pictures. Thanks.
Ok, I have the pictures in photobucket. But I am not very computer savvy so I don't know how to get them from photobucket to here? I see on here on the posting rules it says "You may not post attachments" does this mean I cannot upload photos?
Well since i cant figure pictures out i will give you more info on the truck and my plans. I am stuck between keeping it original or putting a 150 4x4 frame under it. the truck has surface rust and some rot from what i can see so far but nothing really bad. it has been in a garage all its life so that helped it. we plan on keeping it the same color.
1-engine 300-6 was running fine when parked. 118,685 original miles
2-automatic transmission not sure wich one yet. working fine when parked.
3- open diff i think because i remember only one wheel would spin in snow.
4-style is custom but does have chrome down the sides.
tomorrow we plan on getting it into the garage pulling the seat and floor mat and seeing whats under the mat. will have pictures if i get it figured out how to upload.

my son, wife and me took the cap off the truck and pulled(with an ATV) the truck into the garage today. a little more investigating showed the worst rot common in these trucks.it will need floor pans and one cab corner replaced. rockers and cab mounts are in good shape just surface rust.core support and inner fenders are all in really good shape no rot. looked under the truck and everything is all surface rust. so i am very happy the frame and all is in good shape. here are some pics.

thanks for the welcome and for the link to step by step it will be a big help to keep organized. my goal for the winter is to get everything disassembled and tagged. i have been saving coffee cans for years so i have plenty of those. also i want to have all the patch panels welded in. my garage is not heated so i am limited to the work i can do. in the meantime i can keep collecting parts and information till warmer weather.
I got a late start today on the bed but did manage to get all the bolts out wiring unplug and gas tank hoses off. it is loose and ready to be picked off.
Does anyone know the easiest way to drain the gas tank? I am not sure how much is in it and it still smells fresh.
thanks. the garage is 30x50x15-high all steel. 100% usable space inside (no poles). did wood on the front to match my house. we built it ourselves. the manufacturer is Crown Buildings out of Pennsylvania.
I have a few days off so my son and I worked on his truck yesterday. We managed to get the front clip off pretty easy, all the parts are in good shape especially the core support. Two questions can i buy the front fender lower support brackets? One end on both of them are rusted off,or do i need to fab new ends on them. Also how do you get the core support bushings out of the frame? I assume they slip together, i did put the bolt back in them and try beating them out with no results Thanks,
