more 47 questions

The heater in my 47 2 ton was removed and I have a box of parts, I have no idea how they are assembled and I'm not getting any clues from the firewall. Does anybody have a exploded parts view of it? Also I can't get the fan motor to work. It has 4 red leads coming out of it and it's likely 6 volt. Can these be rebuilt and converted to 12 volt? Any help is appreciated.

Heater Question

Heaters were often added later. Typically the heater frame holds the motor and fan shroud and mounts to the firewall with two bolts. The heater core is supported within the shroud and has two water pipes that will pass through both the motor frame and firewall. If you can't match the four holes in the firewall chances are the heater may never have been installed in your truck.
Usually you only have one wire from the motor and this is hot. The motor is grounded through the frame. The hot wire goes to a rheostat heater switch to vary fan speed. Maybe the four wires are for a two speed switch using two ground connections. Check out using a 6V battery. If motor doesn't turn, it may be gummed up or the brushes worn down.

You should be able to see where the hoses and bolts go through the firewall on the last picture.

You can't convert the motor from 6v to 12v. If your truck is 12v and you have a 6v motor you'll either have to find or adapt a similarly sized 12v motor (to accept the fan blades) or just get a new 12v water heater unit (eg. MACS). You'll need to drill new holes in the firewall and plug up old ones (blank grommets).

Wow, those parts are nothing like mine. But thanks for taking the time to post the pics! At least I get an idea where the hoses go through the firewall ( even though those holes don't exist on my firewall.

The heaters were a dealer installed option and probably no two of them are alike. It was mostly to give you an idea of the mounting. Good luck with yours!

There's a discussion on the heaters here:

https://www.ford-trucks.com/forums/1...ck-heater.html

You can use the 6v motors in a 12v system. Just need a heavy duty resistor to drop voltage (and dissipate heat. They have big heat sinks)

Good luck on your project!

P.S. Here's a pict of what that resistor looks like. The fans were usually 2-speed, hence the three wires. Resistor is used going into a 2-spd switch.
