IDI's make me .....

SMILE!!

Merry Christmas to everyone!
Haven't been on in a while, just sayin' Hi

The 85 F350 is still running daily doin' what it does. The 6.9 is tougher than nails!

I added a new truck to the fleet, a 1991 F-Superduty with a 12' x 8' x 4' dumping stake body. It's a 7.3/ZF5 combo with disc brakes all around and 5.13 gears. It's a serious truck!! I plan to convert this one over to 4x4 with a Dana 60 front axle and add a NP205 to the ZF5 (with some finesse of course ) and having a serious go-anywhere-with-no-excuses dump/chip truck. I'm still undecided on going with 4.56 gears or 5.13's when I rebuild a D60/10.25 for swapping under the Superduty. I'd love to be able to go on the highway for a little while without sucking too much fuel. But then again, with a loaded truck I will probably never go over 55 anyways...so I'm on the fence and the decision will be made by whatever mood I'm in during gear-install day But there WILL definetly be ARB lockers in both ends

The 85 F350 will also be getting the 4x4 swap with a 60 front. I have a home-brew reverse shackle design in mind to work in combo with a heavy duty front winch bumper to seriously reinforce the front frame section. I'm looking to build this truck into a rigging-truck/mini-crane truck with a 5k pound telescoping crane and hydraulic winches in the front and rear bumpers. The crane is kinda like the cranes on the service trucks with utlity bodies and the tire service trucks. I'm hoping to be able to tow a dump truck and load wood into the dump trailer and get away from cutting a billion "cookies" to load into the dump trailer by hand which makes the jobs last longer. The truck is already on site towing the dump trailer, why not add a crane to it to cut an hour off the job time? Makes sense to me

At any rate, the IDI's just make me smile everyday as I enjoy being payment-less and having stupid reliable and stupid simple work trucks that allow me to earn the same income per job as the drivers of the newer trucks...BUT...not having the same expenses of a monthly payment and higher maintenance expenses. The ol' IDI's have their days of being stubborn and having a headlight switch burn up on the drive home at night, but that's what makes life exciting I suppose I'm thrilled to own my IDI's, they get abused daily and never complain and don't cost nearly as much as the newer stuff. Therefore.....IDI's make me

Merry Christmas guys!
