I have an autolite c8zf-g on my 78 F150 custom 400cid. I was pretty sure it wasn't original & started checking it out. seems to be off of a mustang. it runs great at idle but hesitates & is hard to start when the fuel tank is low or it's warm. anybody know if this carb is not good for this application? or maybe a weak fuel pump?

The Z in the PN denotes a Mustang but carb tags can come and go. What is important is whether it is an Autolite 2100 (2bbl) or a 4100 (4bbl). Both versions are really good carbs and SUPER simple to rebuild.
If it's a 4100, look on the right side of the carb body for 1.08 or 1.12. The former is around 480 cfm and the latter is 600 cfm.
2x.. a bog is usually the accelerator pump. There is an arm to the pump that can be relocated to the inboard hole if it needs a stronger shot. If i's maxed out, you might as well throw a $25 rebuild kit at it.
