Fuel injection
Fuel injection
Anybody checked out MSD's Atomic EFI. Pricey but I think in the long run it would pay for itself. Technology is way advanced from my days as a mechanic. Today's mechanics are TECHNICIANS. I remember when solid state ignitions first hit the market we were worried if something happened we would just have to convert back to points and condensors again. Look at it now, very dependable and almost trouble free for the life of a vehicle. Love new technology.
This is the first time I've seen it. I've seen the EZ efi system before and dreamed about buying it "someday" lol but this MSD kit eliminates the fuel return line for easier setup which is pretty cool
Mrs. Clause set me up with the PowerJection III TB EFI. I am in the middle of installing it on my Mustang and can say it looks like a simple and easy solution to EFI. I expect to get it running right after Christmas.

I recently spent time looking at EFI options for my sbc 383 vortec motor that I built for Willard. I had originally planned to run and have the manifold and carb (600 Edlebrock that I will rebuild). I have been trying very hard to see if it can be done for under $1k. To stay under $1k, you need to be able to junkyard an OEM setup. There really is no full OEM setup for my built motor. I also really wanted multi port injection rather than throttle body injection. I found that in my case the options become very limited and a fortune in $ and time could be invested in getting a well tuned system for my motor. The tbi aftermarket systems discussed above typically are in the $2k and up region. Right now I am continuing to watch possible options knowing that I have a suitable carb setup and changing somewhere down the road is an acceptable way to go. That said I will do what I can in my build to make retrofitting EFI easier in the future if I choose that route. For example, I will weld in bungs in the new exhaust for future O2 sensors. I will also see if it is practical to plan for a fuel return line. This may or may not be practical if I stay with the stock tank.
It is hard to argue against how well engines run with modern EFI. I duly remember how bad a Chrysler ran that I had for a while back in the "lean burn" days. It was toward the end of the carb days trying to meet emissions and in a word, it was terrible.

The newest version of the Powerjection III system does not need a return line, something about the computer manages the fuel pressure? I also planned for the efi bungs when I did my exhaust system, and vented the tank with a weld-in bung into the filler tube.....Also, I found the system online at "Joe's speed" and asked Summit to price match which they did (around $1,475.00) and that was low enough to make me buy. I am viewing this as a "smart carb" as opposed to a fully functional EFI multi port system as I won't be racing her, rather getting ice cream.
