Another FICM
I am running a 2006 F250 4x4 FX4 with the 6.0 L diesel engine (with original batteries). A few weeks back, when it started getting colder around here, I noticed (on my edge CTS) that the battery voltage was getting down to around 11.5 volts after I would start the truck, and before the alternator would kick in. I figured I better start looking at the FICM voltage to make sure it isn't hurting it. So I started turning on the EDGE CTS monitor before I would turn the key on. You can tap the screen when you get in the truck, and wait until it almost starts up before turning the key on. When I turn the key on I was seeing FICM voltage in the lower 40s.
I went to the local parts shop, where I unhooked each battery so they could test them. They said they tested fine, but I don't think the kid working there really knew how to use the tester. He was only pushing the load switch for a second then reading it. I think you need to draw on them for at least a few seconds before you read them. Either way, so much for a free test. So I figured that I would just go ahead and replace the almost 6 year old batteries.

The voltage after the alternator kicks in runs around 13.9 to 14.2 volts.

I went to Sears and got two new Platinum batteries. My wife about shot me when I told her the price. Anyway, now after I start the truck the voltage is still above 12 volts. I don't think there is a problem with the batteries. So I have checked the FICM voltage and I am still seeing numbers in the low 40s. They work back up to 48 v pretty quickly after starting.

Are these numbers in the low 40s normal while the glow plugs are on?

If I don't start the Edge CTS up early, until it (the CTS) turns on after I start the truck the FICM voltage is up around 48. Is checking the FICM voltage with the Edge CTS ok, or should I pull the cover and check it with my volt meter.

I see in some FICM testing procedures that they tell you to unhook the glowplug feed wire. Is that the wire bolted to the positive post clamp? Should I even check it with these numbers?

The truck is currently starting fine, and runs great with the FICM voltage staying above 47 while running. No codes ect.

What do you guys think???

Thanks for any help.
But, I would still bet you are going to need a new or repaired FICM.
