Well lately I have been experiencing the turbo farting just at random on my 05 F250. I was going to pull the turbo and do some cleaning over the holidays since Ill be off work and have time but tonight it started the farting again. I could barely get up to 10 mph at wot and then after about 30 seconds my boost would finally build up enough to get me going. Started home and my boost pegged out and heard a loud pop like a bomb under the hood and then massive black smoke everywhere. Again here goes the max 10 mph at wot but managed to make it about a mile to where there was a store I could pull into the parking lot of. Started nosing under the hood and noticed the lower boot on the passenger side had came off the pipe. Got her situated back on and reclamped, trucks running like a champ again. Looks like Im gonna be getting some new boots for a late Christmas gift. I had thought for sure that I had blown that turbo. So thankful that it was the boot. Didnt romp on her too much on the way home (bout a 30 mile drive) but got a few 20 lb boosts out of it but didnt want to push it, acceleration seemed responsive so maybe the turbo doesnt need cleaning after all. I guess the boot may have been unseating and reseating varying on the outside temp. Only has been doing it in weather under 50 degrees that I have noticed. Now would be a good time to do the ccv reroute also.
Sorry to hear that. I blew the clamp that runs out of the turbo down to the intercooler. Split the spot weld. I had some old zip cuffs and duct tape and it held the boot on till I could get to the dealer and pick up a new one. It was like $30.00. I picked up two. It scared me to death, I was towing 10K up a pretty solid grade and I thought I popped the motor or got shot. My EGT went crazy too for awhile.
Don't waste your money on the blue silicone boots the dealer sells as they're crap and degrade from the oil they're exposed to which is the reason they fail. Instead, spend your hard earned cash on great boots from Dieselsite and never worry about them again. They're quite a bit more money but worth every penny.
