I have a 1980 F-150 4x4 and here is whats happening...I have headlights will come on (brights and dims) and work fine,
but thats it.. I don't have tail-lights,brake lights, license plate lights, front parking lights, turn signals
Ok ? So here is something that happens once in a while.
Im not sure if its the running lights or the brake lamps, but every now and then the back lights will light up.
It doesn't matter if the truck is on/off, parked in gear with the headlights on/off or parking lights on/off.
I dont get it !
I've even checked the wiring diagram.
Is it possible that something back there is comes on at the back activating the ground wires ?
Anyways, if someone can help me out I'd greatly appreciate it...
james
ps..the turn signal lever doesnt lock when you pull it down (like to turn them on) it just sits there or returns to the neutral (not activated) position.
Do the front marker lamps work with the switch pulled to the first position? I would troubleshoot the marker/running lamp circuit first. It's a brown wire. If you have a diagram, you really need a multi-meter or test light to start figuring out what's going on. I would pull the light-switch out half-way, then pull a bulb out and probe the socket to see if you have voltage. If you suspect grounds, you might want to get a long wire and hook the test light or negative of you meter to a known good ground up front. If you get voltage, then hook the negative of the test instrument to the ground tang in the socket, to see if you still have a reading.
nope the marker lamps dont work..im gonna get a meter this weekend and try to figure out whats goin on...if all else fails ill just buy a new harness..it shouldnt be to hard to put it in this truck...so you think the turn signal switch inside the steering column could have anything to do with it.. A buddy of mine is a aprentice for a ford dealership and he asked one of the electronics specialist and he said that could be it..but i dont think so..then again i dont know everything..an also where can i buy a wiring harness from. all Painless has is Bronco harnesses and universal harnessees. Thanks
