Front Drive shaft

Front Drive shaft

Some of you have been following my previous thread on the 4wd noise. I talked to a shop that does ALOT of Superduties and before they even looked at it they said it is the front driveline. The owner has a F250 lifted the same amount as mine and said he goes through one every year because the factory driveshaft does not like a lift (only 6 inch lift) he said the reason he goes through them so quick is because up here in Alaska you are in 4wd a majority of the year so it has increased wear.

What is your opinion/experience with lifted trucks and front driveshafts?

When i got under the truck I can grab the Slip Yolk and rattle it up and down and side to side, should there be Any play in the Slip Yolk?

its probally dry, get some teflon enriched grease and pack it good. The other problem is the junk double carbon joint, they suck! i had to replace my rear one at 86k on my 5.4 super duty. And now my front one at 98k is starting to get a little play when i cjecked it last night, but im gonna save up and buy a custom driveshaft from superior or another GOOD company.

and the problem is when you install a lift the slip yoke extends for the increase in lift causing it too ride on an inch of splines instead of four inches of splines, Any lift more than two inches should have a new longer driveshaft, then you'll never have any problems. On my 78 F150 i installed a four inch lift with 35's. Ever lift kit company said i did not need longer driveshafts. the first night i had rear driveshaft wobble, the first weekend out in the mud the front driveshaft pulled apart twice. So i had the driveshafts extended and its been three years of heavy off roading with no wobbles or pulling apart.

Ill pull it off today and repack it. and hopefully it works...
