I was wonder if you get a 8 in lift do you need to get a longer driveshaft. What lift kit to you guys suggest to get. I still debating what i what to get frist a lift or a chip, exhuast and intake. What do you think i should do first?
You might have to re-index your tranfercase with an 8" lift but i'm not sure. You should try e-mailing a 4x4 company and they will better answer your questions. Good luck
At 8" it's not just the length of the driveshaft you need to be worrying about, it's also the extreme angle those u-joints are trying to operate at. At that height you might want to consider getting a CV driveshaft in the rear. Those are made to your length spec's anyway. The only problem is that once they're made they're made for whatever lift height you measured at, so if you decide to go higher you may need a new driveshaft. Make sure before you get one made that you've gone as high you want to go.
Thinks for repling. I understand about the jhole cv drive. I trade in my jeep to get the truck. My jeep had a 4 in lift with 33's, it neeed a cv drive shaft bad, The rear drive driveshaft is only about a foot long from u-joint to u-joint.
My little Samurai rockcrawler has a bulletproof CV driveshaft from Tom Woods and it hasn't failed in the 4 years I've been torturing it. But anyway, if you're looking to put an 8" lift on your SD that's going to cost a pretty penny, depending on what size tire and what wheels you go with. Look through the lift poll sticky at the top of the forum. It gives a lot of info on lifts, brands, what they cost, installation, etc.
