Recall Questions?? Your input please.

I have my truck scheduled for a recall maint. The cps which is no big deal, I get to keep the one I currently have. The recall in question is the fuel system bracket. Anyone have this done or can you explain it to me? He said he would have to take off the box to install this bracket. They need my truck for the whole day. I'm not very happy about it,but they said it's a saftey thing.
What are your thoughts or experiences? Thanks in advance.

I'm not familiar with a fuel system bracket recall. The two I know about off the top of my head are the CPS and the brake switch.

Have you called another dealer to check with them on the schedule? Odds are they want the truck for the whole day so they can try to squeeze it in somewhere. The work itself will probably be done in less than an hour.

Make sure they don't flash your computer or I think it kills your chip.

I don't like taking in my truck to the dealer either. I do all the work on our vehicles except for a recent oil change on my wives car. She had it changed at Valvoline and she asked if they could look to see why her windshield sprayers were not working (first I heard of it). Turns out they tore the hood liner in a couple of places on her 2007 edge. The nozzles ended up being broken . I wasn't happy and didn't return the led flashlight he left under the hood. Maybe I'll wrap it up and put under the Christmas tree.

Maybe the braket there talking about is the fuel tank strap? My f150 has that recall out on it but I didn't think the 250s were part of it.

He said he needs to drill holes and add tethers n I can't remember what else. Kinda freaking me out no one has heard of this recall. Also I'm doing the padle lock mod on my OBD II this weekend.

Just look under the dash and unplug the OBD II port connector. Then simply remove the screws holding the OBD II port on. That will keep them plenty far away from the PCM. They will scratch their head and note it on the paperwork.

I have not heard of the bracket either. My guess is he is confused with the brake switch wire harness. A CPS is all of a 10 minute job. The Brake switch harness is about that too. I have not taken mine in for the harness swap as they want me to take time off work. I told them I would swing in and they could plug it in and I would go on my way. Not sure why all these dealers feel the need to keep our trucks.

Yeah I chuckled when he said the CPS would be an hour job. Then I stunned them when I told them I already had the IH CPS in there. Uh oh,someone knows something about their truck. I stressed to them today when they were doing the speed sensor recall that they DO NOT reflash anything. Could this just be an e99 recall?

"Ford Motor Co. is recalling more than one million F-Series trucks to replace straps that secure the vehicles’ fuel tanks, Bloomberg News reported.

The action is being taken due to concerns that the straps may corrode and cause the tanks to fall, Bloomberg said. The defect has led to three fires and one injury, said Wesley Sherwood, a Ford spokesman.

The recall applies to 1.1 million trucks, including F-150s from model years 1997 to 2004; F-250s from model years 1997 to 1999; and Lincoln Blackwoods from model years 2002 to 2003.

The National Highway TrafficSafety Administration announced the recall on its website. The agency launched an investigation last year in 21 U.S. states and the District of Columbia and determined that de-icing chemicals used on roads in cold weather can corrode of the metal straps.

Ford said it will contact owners of affected vehicles in mid-September and make repairs at no cost."

Sorry for the long post. I didnt think it included f250s but I guess I got to check another vin now.

Mines an F-350. Would it matter? Could be the tank straps. Thought he said something about something not puncturing the plastic tank. Said he hasn't done one for 8 years or more. He won't do just the CPS neither,I asked. I don't know, the more I think about it I think I'm just going to cancel the appointment. I hate mechanics that go by book and not experience. Besides I just had the tank down when I got my fuel level float stuck in the wires. Everything looked A OK.

Every 'recall' that I had done, I sat in the truck while they were working on it. Each time the shop manager did not like the idea and I told them up front... no one from the dealership is driving my truck and no one from the dealership is sitting in my truck, if they did not like that then he should mark it down that the Dealer refused to do the recall service, and I would leave...... they did the service with me sitting in the truck.

I'm probably just going to cancel the appiontment. It's an 8+ year old recall, and no one on here has heard of it,unless it is fuel tank straps. Which I wouldn't think would need a bracket, teathers, and box removal.

I have not heard of it. If it is an 8year old recall that means that the straps would have been bad after a couple of years..... if it has not fallen off by not, I don't think that if will.......

.Just don't leave your truck alone with the Dealer.
