Sounds like someone may have replaced the signal flasher with a higher capacity version at some point in time. If you tow a trailer , the bi-metal originals tend to die quicker and replacing them with a higher amperage flasher will keep them from slowing down (or burning up) when you add the extra lamps with the trailer connected. But when the trailer is not hooked up, the flasher will cycle that much faster. I'd go in search of the correct flasher to replace the one thats in there.
Where do I find the flasher unit that you are referring to? I assume it is some device that controls the flashers? How can I get to it, and is it hard/expensive to replace? Thanks.
If you do any towing install a heavy duty flasher. If you do no towing install a standard duty flasher. There should be two flashers plugged into your fuse box. One for emergency flashers and one for direction flashers.

I think you may have that backwards. My experience has been that the original thermal type will flash faster with the extra draw from the trailer lights.

I agree.
The flasher is only a few $$$ at the local parts store.
The electronic flashers don't care how many bulbs there are. They flash the same with or without a trailer hooked up, and are supposed to last much longer. I think mine was still less than $10.
I have seen were a short in the system will cause the blinkers to flash faster then normal. I would check your wiring around the blinkers and see if maybe it has worn through and is touching metal
a little known fact is that you can actually over fill your signal fluid resevoir. You may have too much fluid... try purging your system, drain some and see if that works.
