I had a buddy that had the trailer flasher on his Bronco. My wife thought the "frantic" flash fit his personality. I carry a spare unit (for when I'm trailering) - it plugs into the fuse box. Bottom line - did this "frantic" behavior just start happening - or did the vehicle come to you like that? If it came like that - it's PROBABLY just the flasher contol unit (like greystreak said). ($5 - any parts store - maybe even Wal-mart))

I'm pretty sure I've never checked my signal fluid reservoir. The rest of my "reservoirs" are OK (according to ME).

You guys have it right, I was writing in the wee hours. The additional lamps drawing current through the flasher unit causes the bimetal to heat up faster thereby causing the increased flash rate.

Checked my flasher fluid resevoir and that was the problem! Blinking at a nice, normal pace now. Thanks!

P.S I don't think the new $4 flasher unit hurt either

Since your local AutoZone doesn't like to pull codes for you, you should have at least asked them to check that blinker fluid.
