The dreaded tone ring failure been there done that, drivers side i replaced whole cv shaft which comes with tone ring installed got axle at advance with 20% off for 55.00 . Pass side i just did ring bought at dealer it was like 5 bucks as i didnt want to mess with that side from my reading on the forums it is a common failure......
spread RTV on the tone ring ledge and place a piece of paper about 1/2 inch wide and 2 inches long on the RTV then a little more on top of the paper and then slide the tone ring in place. I have one that I did 3-4 years ago or about 50K miles and the other last year. So far I have never had to "re-fix" them.
Thanks for the feedback...I considered RTV too but prefer to go with a new ring...will have the strut off as well for replacement so will go with new ring...
New ABS tone ring installed, passenger side, easy. Cleaned up the hub with a stiff wire brush, used a little white lith grease to help start the ring, then seated in place with light hammer and punch tool...would be easier with same ID/OD "driver" to tap ring all around to get it on the hub...
