Hey guys my names dakota glad to be here . I hope I'm posting in the correct area if not please move it to the correct location. I am going to be buying a truck around feburary. Of course I'm thinking now about what to get. My first truck was an 88 f150 wore out beat up and glued back together (jb weld) I have also owned a silverado with a tbi 350 I liked the Chevy and like how the tbi was easier to work on but it definetly didn't hold a load as well and was tail happy in the rain. I'm considering buying a Ford again . Mostly because they are a little cheaper to buy. I'm going to spend around 1500 bucks. I dont expect a new or perfect truck. My questions are what are some real common issues with the 85-95 trucks ? Why should I buy a Ford over another manufacturer, and what engine 300 or 302? O and what the pros to Ford efi vs Chevys tbi? Any other advice or thoughts is well appreciated. Thanks guys!
well its all opinoinated. its what ever you feel is better. engine size dont matter... i find ford better cause the structure work is alot better then chebby and fords are very dependable if you take care of em. i would think between 85 and 95 would be electical or lines... i honostly dont know. but when you go to look at the truck know what your lookin for. pop the hood, check the hoses, oil, tires, and what not. it also depends what your gonna be using the truck for
I will be using it mainly as a daily driver and to haul little stuff once in awhile some scrap metal nothing ridiculous or even at the trucks limits I imagine. What did you mean by better structure work? I'm really interested to know more about that. Thank you for the help
You're not in the wrong forum but I would recommend posting this in the '80-'96 and '87-'96 forums.
I've owned three mid eighties trucks, 2 with the 300 and one with a 351. The 351 was the only EFI and it was an '88. The only fuel related issue was a new front pump at 185K.
by structure work i mean it is more sturdy. and less likely for the cab and bed to shake rapidly and violently. its frame is built twice as strong as the chevy. my opinion has always been.. if your lookin for a truck go with a ford, if your lookin for a car go with a chevy. only good thing about dodge are the hemi's
The biggest difference I personally noticed was that the Chevy wasn't able to hold a load like the ford it squated easier. one thing about Chevy I did like was the front axle is higher up and harder to get Hung up on.
well if your just doing little things and such that wouldnt matter haha. personally id go with a ford just cause they know how to make trucks. chevy is alright... but the quality isent there
the 300 if your wanting to save some gas. but all the other stuff, its just what your gonna want for your style of driving. not gonna find everything you want if your lookin to buy used haha
The 300 or a 351.
88-96 are all good trucks, as mentioned earlier the fuel pump and
Related electrical system seems to be a common issues.
They are never that serious that you can't work them out yourself.
As for as Chebbies go, I think this is the wrong website to ask which truck
Is better. All the Fords I have owned kicked butt and then some.
