I recently bought a 2002 F-150 4x4 with a 4.2 Liter and automatic transmission. The truck was parked for a few days and I found the battery dead when I tried to use it today. I figured the battery was old and its getting cold outside so I just put another battery in it. The truck started right up and ran fine but I decided to change the starter relay on the firewall also. The battery was disconnected again and when the battery was reconnected the ignition wire to the relay had no power when I tried to start the truck , and the theft light was flashing. I turned the key on and jumped the relay and the truck started but when i shut it off with the key the running lights came on while the headlight switch was off . with the key turned off and removed ,there is a clicking sound under the dash and the radio comes on and the theft light keeps blinking . The running lights seem to have a mind of there own , they now turn on when they want . Ideas ?
I unhooked the battery last night and charged it to 100% again. We hooked the battery up and the first thing we noticed is when the door was opened the buzzer came on . I believe this should only happen if the key is in the ignition (it wasnt). The theft light was not on this time but when I tried to jump the starter relay it came back. HEEELPPPP !!
Coud it all just be the ignition tumbler?
Well after resseting all of the keys , I,m now able to start the truck but the ignition relay wire is hot when the key is in the run position . Is there another relay besides the one on the firewall ? Or is the ignition switch on the steering column the only other piece to this puzzle ?
