Hey hows it going has any one had any good luck with an add a leaf for the front of a low boy I cant stand the raked look and im having a hard time finding some high boy springs any help would be appreciated
The 77.5-79s have negative arched front springs. I don't know if you can rearch them into positive archs. I'd go with the add a leaf if you can't find a highboy front pack. It'll probably be the cheaper alternative.
Ok that makes sense im gonna keep looking im gonna go with some 34 inch pizza cutters probably the super swamper narrow ss and im pretty sure they'll fit I know 33 12.5 did so ill wait around untill I come across a set of highboy springs
If you get the highboy springs, or just get to that ride height, you will be able to easily fit 35x12.5 tires. Unless you have some weird backspacing on your wheels.
I have a 77.5 F250 4X4 that I added a leaf. Worked great. Originally I took the springs to a spring shop and planned on re-arching the springs. When I put the springs on the counter he knew that they belonged on the late model Ford 4x4. He claimed a leaf had been removed to improve the ride. We added a leaf and I have been happy.
Ok thanks a lot guys I had a major brain lagg a couple months ago I bought a frame because it had a good set of 60s under it and its been sittin out in the feild I forgot all about it so I went out there last nigh and sure enuff its a high boy so I've got the springs one more question tho when I do go to put them under the front end should I just get some stock length high boy shocks
I found a set of High Boy springs for my '79. They made quite a bit of difference but my factory springs were in pretty bad shape. The Highboy springs had only been on a truck for about 6 mos so they didn't have 35 years of use on them either. I had to have new u-bolts made and bought 2 front shocks from Napa for a 76 F250 4x4. Other than that it was a direct bolt-in.
so I've got the springs one more question tho when I do go to put them under the front end should I just get some stock length high boy shocks
Depends, if the highboy springs are 'beat' and only net you 1-2" of lift your lowboy shocks may have enough travel to accomodate them, if the highboy springs are 'fresh' and net you 3-4" of lift you'll definitely need the longer highboy shocks.
Nono I'm not expecting anything except the stock high boy height and the springs are pretty fresh the guy who I got the donor truck was about 50% done a resto when he lost interest ill get the high boy shocks just to be safe
noltingc81 nice rims BTW, glad I have both styles also, and your picture helps me figure out what set to run. You running 33's right?
I see you have the dreaded tail light rot, I know your pain.
Also I just did not want the guy to think he was bolting on a 6" lift with those HB springs.
I love these old wheels on a dent and the slots are probably my favorite. Yep, those are 33's.
The tail light rot has me scratching my head. The passenger side shows no signs of it. Stupid rust...
I know what ya mean on the lift part...My situation probably isn't the best to go off of since my original springs were sagging horribly and the HB springs I used had very little miles on them. Made the difference that more noticeable if ya know what I mean.
