Hey guys I just picked up a '94 b3000 but it's missing the center console and the seats aren't in the best condition.... My question is, can I take the seats out of the same year explorer/ranger?? Also what years are the oldest and newest of that body style?? I just want to find the range of years to look for parts..
Yes you should be able to interchange Ranger and Explorer interior parts with your Mazda. Ranger parts from 1989 to 1994 will work and Explorers from 1991 to 1994. You can also use newer seats from these two as well if you unbolt the seat bottom cushion from the sliding mount part of the frame that bolts to the floor. Doing this will let you use seats up through 2000 or so.
Uh, the ranger cab style changed over (curved doors, "hump" in the floor across the cab under the seats and the console) in 1993 for the Ranger (and I believe the Mazda got the same cab as the Ranger starting in 93), interior should interchange up to, I believe, 2000 or so. Not sure but I think the explorer changed over in 1992 (if the front end is rounded style, you should be golden)
Is your Mazda a single or extended cab? Auto or standard transmission?
If a single cab, you might have to re-use your seat base like Stan said if you went after the seats from an extended cab ranger or a 2-door explorer, but if it is an extended cab, the 2-door explorer seats (and console) should be a bolt-in (and the four-door seats with a base change)
If your truck is a standard (floor shift transmission), you may have to look a little harder to find a standard tranny Explorer or Ranger with a console that will clear the shifter.
https://www.ford-trucks.com/forums/1...h-console.html was for a 1999 ranger getting seat/console parts parts from a similar year Explorer. There tend to be a lot more Explorers (with nice seats/consoles) than post-92 Rangers (or Mazdas) in the pick-a-part yards, so they tend to be good donors.
As an aside, I stole the floor hump (drilled the spot welds) from a 93 Ranger cab so I could put Explorer seats and console in my 91 supercab Ranger.
its a 5 speed 4x4 extended cab.. so correct me if im wrong but i should be looking for a 5 speed 2 door 91 and up explorer if i want to just bolt in...?
If you're just after the seats and console, you should be OK with a 91 and up 2-door Explorer (the 4-door seats don't have the slide to move way up against the dash to give you access to the back jumpseats/cargo area in the Mazda/Ranger),ideally with a 5-speed for shifter clearance of the console (or find a way to mount the console farther back or get a short-throw Hurst shifter to clear the console) Plus you might want to do some wiring if you pick up really fancy powered seats. If you want the door panels and stuff, you will have to chase a 93 and up Ranger/Mazda, or a 95 and up explorer.
Like was stated above, you can use any of the seats from the Rangers, Explorers, Tempo, T-Bird etc IF you just unbolt the frame from the bottom of the seats and bolt them on to your existing frames. Then it doesn't matter if it was 2 door, 4 door etc. I'm currently using the buckets from my 2 door '94 Explorer Sport in my '84 BII because I unbolted the seat frame. It was a bolt-in swap. I really like the BII passenger frame because it actually lifts the seat up and forward instead of sliding it. I'm thinking of putting that frame into my '96 Ranger.
