Well I installed two new batteries last winter and have no question about them being sound. I put them on a charger today and they were only drawing 1 amp off the charger. My truck is starting like I have low battery power. It takes 4 or 5 seconds to start rather than 2 or 3 for example. I get the woo woo woo rather than it snapping to life. Anyhow is my starter on its way out?
Sorry for the long question/explanation but...
Also, what's the best starter/source for the money out there? I've seen the mean green but the price seems mean as well (would be my first choice if I had the flow)
I just put a sd starter in mine monday. I have been very happy with it. I got the two bolt starter not the three. Starter is on the passenger side of motor down low. You get to it from under the truck. If you get the sd starter you have to make the lil electric terminal eye a lil bigger so it fits on the sd starter post. Other than that three bolts and two nuts and the starter is out.

sounds like a good deal.. terminal eye? like the normal round sort? Did you drill it?
Went out and got my hands dirty today. The negative posts looked good on the batteries but the positives had some corrosion. I used some Napa terminal cleaner and used some emery paper to brighten up the metal on the posts and inside the connector eyes. I then tried cranking the truck and still had a bit of the wa wa wa but it did kick over as it always had. I then located the grimy starter and carefully pulled off the positive lead. Note to self: disconnect battery on passenger side before attempting the removal of the positive lead on the starter. Had a bit of an arc when with socket wrench & frame of truck. I then cleaned the connector up real good with emery paper, shined it up and used some cleaner/lubricant on the starter side too. hooked it back up and cranked her up. I noticed an improvement unless the placebo effect took over. Hopefully this starter will last a while longer. I think it's the original and my truck has around 180,000 miles on the clock.
seemed as if I would have to pull the starter to get to the negative connection. The negative battery terminals looked clean as a whistle but perhaps I should pop them off and check them. One other issue I'm sure is the harness. I would like to upgrade it when I win the lottery for all my future mods.
