Is this 7.3 blown?
Well, I went to look at a 2000 7.3 today, (company truck started KNOCKING something horrible)
I started it and it ran, idled, no smoke.
It sounds like a rod knock, I dont think its an injector knock I know what they sound like with my 6.0....
The truck got towed back, now it wont start...
It almost sounds like the piston is hitting the cylinder head.
Im trying to post a video of it up(running but my phone does not want to work)
Should I start tearing the valve covers off and look for obvious(push rods, injector hold downs...etc)??

I got the driverside valve cover off, cranked it over and all rockers are moving just fine, I figured I would start with the easy side, now off to the pass side.
If they all look good, ill pull em all out and see if their straight or not.

Wouldn't you know it! Bent push rod, broken rocker arm....
No biggy, now my question is why? How did this happen?
Our guys are known for getting in em ice cold and taking off like a bat out of hell, could that be it?

This time of year with the cold temps, its a good idea to let em warm up a bit to get the oil flowing. 15W-40 is pretty thick when it's cold out. There could be other underlying issues but start with replacing the pushrod and rocker and take it from there.

Well, Ford didn't have the parts so it won't be finished up until Monday.
I have to say, the 7.3 is much easier to work on then the 6.0....
Also, what kind of problems could I be looking at after I do this?
I know I bent a rod in my 6.0 when I did my headstuds, I put a new one in and its been beautiful ever since.
