6.0 PSD in Excursion.. Here's the problem.... Starts fine in warm weather or when engine is warm.. When cold, it cranks just fine, engine coughs as if it's going to start, but will not. I read several posts on the FICM having solder issues on the circuit board. Here's my findings upon testing the FICM via multimeter. FICM is the 4 pin/screw version. Batteries are new!!! and load test ok..
Engine warm.... the pin closest to drivers fender tests: 48.7v key on, 47.8 cranking, 48.4 running
Engine cold (sat all night, 32 deg)..... 20.2 v key on, when key is shut off it jumps to 48v then quickly discharges / drops, when cranking it jumps from 22v to 48v then back and forth btw the two voltages.
When cranking, it will cough or hit on what sounds like one cylinder, as if it's going to start.
My first thought is that I need to remove the FICM, locate and solder the broken connections.
Ok,, Removed FICM, re-soldered the connections, as shown in the FICM repair posts... Reinstalled FICM... Immediately Tested to 48 V/DC.... Started engine,,, shut engine down,,, buttoned up everything,,,, NO START..... Tested FICM again, 28 mv/dc...
Guess I'm looking at a new FICM? Cost? Where to buy?
I double checked the harness.. thought same thing... Ground Wire.... is it in the harness or exterior attach? Never saw an exterior wire attaching to the FICM unit....
Just to clarify...... the FICM attaches via two studs w/ nuts, toward front of engine, and two bolts on the back, closest to firewall.. Where does the looped negative wire attach to the FICM.. Does it attach at the studs or at the bolts?
I never took any wires loose other than the harness plugs that "plug in" on the bottom of the FICM. I just want to ensure I didn't miss this negative wire when I reinstalled the FICM.
well if you only unplugged the ficm at the 3 spots then it should still be hooked up
the ground wire comes FROM the ficm
if you traced the rear bundle [the plug closest to firewall] of wires about 3 -4 inches away from the ficm plug 1 wire leaves the bundle and goes to the intake manafold bolt thats the ground wire
