I'm installing my axles and brakes today, and just want to make sure this looks right before I go any further. There isn't any good pictures in the Haynes, and I couldn't find any big bearing exploded views unfortunatly. My real concern is the little gap on the 3rd picture. It just doesn't quite seat flush along that one edge (minus the drain dimple)
Hammer and block of wood against the center of the axleshaft. Will it move?
Silly question, are these the tapered roller bearings or sealed ball bearings? If the tapered bearings, the lip of the seal may not have went into the end of the tube. Would certainly be worth looking into now, as opposed to waiting and finding gear oil leaking out.
They are the tapered bearings. I'll check on the lip now. Do you happen to know of a good 9" specific drum brake write up? the haynes I have is horrible!
What info do you need?
I have an older haynes manual (back in the days of 3 digit numbering) that's got some decent pics. It's actually for 73-79, but everything is the same for 80-86. I could scan them if need be. Not sure how well they would turn out though......
Camera is dead, so I can't take pics of what I'm looking at on my truck.....
I figured it out eventually. the new haynes wanted you to put the parking brake lever in first, which didn't make any sense. I put it in third and everything went good after that. Thanks for the offer though RW
