Changed out the steering column....everything works except it wont start. I did notice a yellow wire that comes from the computer (i think..its behind the heater *****) thats not tied in....where would that wire go. Thanx Bill
The only yellow wire coming from the computer is KAPWR (keep alive power) and it goes to fuse #9 in the engine compartment, so it would not go into the drivers compartment area. Is there a strip on the yellow wire you are referring to or is it solid yellow?
You probably didn't get the key switch in the proper alignment and its not allowing that bar thing to push the starter actuator all the way to start the truck. Sorry I dnt know the proper names of all those parts in there.
If your looking up at the steering column there's a white box . Undo the couple bolts golding it on and pull it out. There is a silver metal thing sticking up push it all the way forward and it should start the truck. The same thing happened to me when I replaced mine.
Try loosening the two bolts that hold the ignition switch that is on the top of the lower column near the firewall and slide it towards the steering wheel a little and snug the bolts back down.
Well maybe if you wouldn't run of some of the really smart ones would chime in and help you out to. I just know what happened when I changed mine so I figured I would give you an idea of what it could be.
So just to confirm, you can turn the key on and the dash lights up, all the gauges come on, but when you turn the key to the start position, nothing happens? Just for S&G's I would have a helper turn the key while you check for voltage on the small (coil) wire on the starter solenoid on the passenger side fender. If you're getting voltage to the solenoid when you turn the key, your switch is fine, you just need a new solenoid.
