Bw 1356 question

I have a bw1356 t-case on a 90 f150 i can use to replace the one in my 89 bronco, my question is the one on f150 has a different output shaft going to the rear axle. The f150 has a long one and the bronco's is short with a two u-joint setup. Can i swap the output shafts out?

Greystreak i believe knows for certain but i recall him saying the output shafts may be different diameters. you would have to take the cases apart and swap which would be pointless in my opinion. I would try and trade for a bronco case or sell what you have and get the correct one.

Yes you can, but instead of tearing 2 cases apart, why not just tear the bronco one apart and rebuild it for about 100 bucks?

Swapping the output shafts would involve a rebuild. I assume you were thinking that you would only have to swap the tailshaft on the cases? The actual output shaft from the pickups is several inches longer than the ones in the bronco. You can swap them around but you have to disassemble both cases to do that. There isn't very much going on inside the case; couple of sprokets, chain, pump, forks.....thats most of it.

For your application make sure it has: fixed yoke rear output (not flange, not slip yoke (truck)), speedometer provision on tailshaft, check fluid color if possible, push/pull all inputs and outputs to see if there is any crazy play in anything, shift through the modes and see if it's working as is. Even if it is working you still need to rebuild it to ensure the pump arm mod gets done or it will suffer the same fate as your old one (more than likely).
