Shorties vs. Full Length

What are the pros and cons of each? I would imagine full length headers perform slightly better and the shorties are better for clearance, but what other differences are there?

Shorties vs. Full Length

Like you said above HP, fit, and also sound.
Full length make more upper rpm h.p.
Shorty headers are more fun to install.
Full length headers give a more crisp and clean sound.

Shorties vs. Full Length

You will have to fabricate a new Y pipe, or equivelent with full lengths. For most street apps, I have found shorties to be the most economical. You might even have to fabricate to make full lengths work.

Shorties vs. Full Length

Header tube length should be tuned to the exhaust gas "pulses" that exit your cylinder. Generally speaking, high revving, high-lift engines do better with a larger-shorter tube, and lower revving "street-type" engines will perform better with a longer tube header. For more of the scientific explanation, one of the engine building books (can't remember exactly which one) by David Vizard is quite good.
