There are sooooo many options out there. Budget constraints vary so much too.
I spent quite a few pennies on my Michelins, but they are possibly the best all around tire out there, in my opinion at least. Awesome road manners, quiet, roll forever. Worked very well in this wet East Coast snow that we got last year. Great wet traction, and they even have a little off road traction, and for a road biased all terrain, it's pretty decent off highway traction.
my 275/60/20s were about $270 a tire, but worth it in my opinion. The LTX M/S2 also comes with a 70k mile treadwear warranty.
Ditto what MCDavis says. I currently have the Michelin AT/2, but have used the LTX M/S tires on my prior vehicles and currently have the LTX M/S2 on my daughter's SUV. Can't beat them IMO. But like MCDaivs says, there are sooo many good options out there, comes down to budget and any personal preferences.
Michelins are an excellent tire. But I don't want to spend $1000 on a set of tires. According to Tire Rack and Consumer Reports the General Grabber HTS is an excellent choice for the budget minded. They rate nearly as well as Michelins at $90 less per tire. They are supposed to be a 60000 mile tire. I'm debating whether to purchase the Generals or BFG Long Trail TA Touring for slightly more $. Check out Tire Rack's website for a lot of useful info on tires. And then read the reviews to also help with your decision.
I had a great experience with BFGoodrich TA KO, used it 63K before trading the 2002, it had treadwear life left (approx 5K). I now have Michelin AT/2, paid good money on it recently. Nice driving so far on and off road, will see how it does in winter driving. Would have gotten Firestone Destination if money was the issue.
I love my Nitto's and have been very impressed with them. They can wear out quicker if you don't rotate them properly but other then that no complaints here.
Based on personal bias, between those two, I would go with the BFG Long Trail.
Screw That! I bought the BFG Long Trail tourings in Nov 2009. They now have 31,000 miles on them and they are starting to show quite a bit of wear and the performance is dropping off... I do have them rotated every 5K just like for Recommends. My factory Hankooks lasted 50,000 miles but they rode like doo doo....
The BFG long trails are supposed to have a 60,000 mile warranty... I am not sure how that warranty works out but I know for a fact these tires won't make it past 40K. The BFG Long trail hasn't been getting the best reviews on Tire rack lately either.. most others are having the same experience as me.
Unfortunately - Costco only offers this tire for my 06, P235/75/17. At one point the Michelin LT2 or LTX's where available in that size but not any more...
I will be going back to Costco and see what is the deal with the 60K warranty. I will let you know how I make out
Every set of BFG tires that I have had on any truck has not lasted and have worn funny even with regular rotation and well maintained vehicle. I have bought two sets of BFGs, and will never buy another. They have been on 3 different trucks that I have had and none of them stood up to the hype.
I purchased the General Grabber HTS this last spring. I spend most of my time on road and wanted a smooth riding tire especially while towing our camper. The other item I needed was good snow traction because I need to get to work to do snow removal. So far they ride great, have been great in the snow (although it has not been as bad as the lat few years), and they were a LOT cheaper than the Michelin and were ranked just below.

Seems the more I look there are less and less tires available at the 235/75 R17 Size. I WILL NOT Get the BFG Long Trail Touring tires again. They are supposed to be 60K tires and they Might last another 15K, which brings the total to 45K. I can't complain about 45K, but I can complain that at about 30K or so the wet performance of these tires has declined...
I am considering the General Grabber HTS, the Bridgestone: Dueler A/T REVO or even the Bridgestone: Dueler A/T REVO 2's. Michelin used to make an LTX M/S2 in 235/75 R17 but no more...
