Sorry I did not get your sarcasm. Great story just shows these are amazing vehicles. Ford should give him a brand new Econoline cargo before they end production. Just like VW gave a new Touareg to a guy who reached an insane mileage with an old Golf.
Getting huge mileage out of these vans is not an issue but rather the rust. They seem to be rust buckets. The lower body of my 1995 E150 is literally falling off. hopefully this will be corrected with the new Transit.
I don't know whether I should be happy or sad----my '00 E250 has hit 268K miles, was hoping for about 25K more before the 5.4 and 4R70W tranny are replaced. I'm about 250 miles over scheduled oil/filter change but since I'm driving mostly highway not too worried about it until this weekend.
This does highlight good maintenance can really wring out a good value for our investments-------thanks for posting this link Mr Silver350!
referring to lack of rust?
With the mileage... it's been driven up and down the east cost out to the Mississippi river for many years and seen all sorts of weather.
...just no rust.
Theres a 1989 E150 Club Wagon that runs around here year round, in the middle of the salt belt. He Krown rust proofs it every year, still under Krown warranty, been doing it since brand new (original owner), and there isn't spec of rust on it anywhere! 390,000km (243k miles).
I work at Krown right now, and I remember doing it 2 months ago. And I remember saying wow when I was underneath it, I talked with him for while, cause I just love these vans, and to see one this clean impressed me.
Rust proofing, and regular washing of these things and they will live on! People are just to cheap or lazy to maintain them!
Shame to, I'd never touch an E-series newer than 1992, they just lost all good looks and style when they re-did the body and interior on them. Witch makes it even harder for me to find one.
No rust here on the 02 with 132k! It's a good reason to buy/own cars in the south! I might trade a little rust for a little less humidity in the summer though!
Got a friend with 360,000 miles on a 95 with 4.9 and C-6, neither have been opened, no rebuild on the trans is amazing, engine only had the distributor replaced, still has the factory injectors, uses a quart between changes, usually at 5,000 - 6,000 miles.
